The history of samaritaine
1870
Ernest Cognacq opens a shop in Rue du Pont-Neuf and calls it La Samaritaine. The shop’s revenues top one million francs in 1875, thanks to the work of Ernest Cognacq and his wife Marie-Louise Jay.
1930
Great success of « Samar », as Parisians call it, which now stretches between an Art Nouveau building by Frantz Jourdain and an Art Deco structure by Henri Sauvage.
2001
LVMH acquires Samaritaine.
2005
Store closed for safety reasons.
2015
Construction work carried out on all five project packages.
2021
The reborn Samaritaine re-opens to the public in time for its 151st anniversary, under DFS management.
